2010 has got off to an exciting start for street art with the appointment of Jeffrey Deitch as director of MOCA and as a result, the announcement that he will close his New York spaces. We are excited about his appointment and look forward to seeing if he can achieve something as consistently exciting at a major museum as he did as a commercial gallery. Also in January Banksy released his film ‘Exit through the gift shop’ at the Sundance Film festival – it sounds intriguing and we can’t wait for its UK release.

Black Rat Projects has a number of exciting projects planned for 2010 including solo shows with Swoon, Nunca and Brian Adam Douglas (Elbow-toe) as well as a number of new print releases. Our first exhibition of the year will take place in March and is a group exhibition featuring works by some of the most exciting artists who have worked in the streets in the last 4 decades. The show has been a long time in planning and we hope it lives up to our expectations.

We have received a number of new things into the gallery this month including an extremely small edition of painstakingly hand coloured elbow-toe prints (these are more like paintings with a printed background than hand coloured prints) and a selection of small, affordable and beautiful hand worked original works by Swoon. If you are interested in receiving details of either please email sarah@blackratpress.com for more details.

We look forward to seeing you at the gallery. Happy 2010.
